I first met this beautiful family during Mom’s maternity session at my studio in Wall, NJ. Then, I had the honor of photographing their newborn daughter shortly after her arrival. Now, seeing them again to celebrate her first birthday with a cake smash was the sweetest full-circle moment.
First birthday sessions are truly special, and this one was no exception. Mom came prepared with creative ideas, and together, we brought her vision to life.

We started the session with a simple, clean setup featuring a single balloon. This minimalistic look let the focus stay on the birthday girl, capturing her sweet expressions and her budding personality.
Next, we incorporated a heartfelt backdrop that Mom lovingly created. It featured photos documenting her daughter’s first year—from tiny newborn moments to playful toddler smiles. It was the perfect way to tell the story of her first year and celebrate how much she’s grown.
For the grand finale, we went all out with a custom balloon garland and a beautiful cake for the ultimate cake smash. The garland made the perfect backdrop for the birthday girl to dive into her cake.
Watching her tiny hands dig into the frosting and seeing her delight as she experienced the sweetness was priceless.
