Hi, I’m Ekaterina, but most people call me Kat.
I’m a maternity and newborn photographer and the owner of Ekaterina Vachino Photography, a full-service portrait studio in Wall Township, New Jersey.
I created my studio as a place where women can stop planning, take a breath, and trust that they will be taken care of.
Photography Has Always Been Part of My Life
I grew up in Russia, where professional photography equipment wasn’t something my family could afford. My first experience with photography was through a disposable camera, but even then, I loved taking pictures.
When digital cameras became available, I dreamed of owning one. During a summer Work and Travel program in the United States, I spent $400 on a simple point-and-shoot camera. It was a major purchase for me at the time, but I couldn’t wait to finally have a camera of my own.
I never expected photography to become my profession. For years, I photographed nature and small details simply because it helped me slow down. Photography was quiet, calming, and something that belonged completely to me.
Over time, I continued learning, investing in better equipment, and wondering whether something I loved could eventually become my career.
Motherhood Changed the Direction of My Work
After my son was born, I knew I didn’t want to return to a job that made me unhappy. I wanted to build meaningful work while also having more control over my schedule and more time with my child.
I officially started Ekaterina Vachino Photography in 2020.
My own experience with pregnancy naturally led me toward maternity and newborn photography. I didn’t always enjoy every part of being pregnant, and I understand that pregnancy doesn’t always feel beautiful.
Your body may feel unfamiliar. You may feel uncomfortable, tired, or unlike yourself. You can appreciate what your body is doing while still having complicated feelings about how you look and feel.
That understanding shapes the way I photograph women today.
A Place Where You Will Never Be Judged
Women are often much harder on themselves than anyone else would ever be.
I hear women describe themselves as too big, awkward, or unphotogenic before we have even taken the first photograph. I would never judge you for feeling vulnerable, but I also won’t allow those fears to determine how you see yourself.
You don’t need to arrive feeling confident. You don’t need to know how to pose or have a complete vision for your session.
I’ll guide you through every detail and show you the photographs as we work. That is usually when the hesitation begins to disappear. You relax, your confidence grows, and you start seeing what I already see.

Everything Is Taken Care Of
My maternity sessions are designed to remove as much planning and pressure as possible.
Professional hair and makeup, wardrobe access, posing guidance, and thoughtful retouching are all included. We’ll discuss your ideas before the session, and I’ll help you choose looks that photograph well and feel like you.
When you arrive, you can sit down for hair and makeup, unplug for a little while, and let us take care of you.
You don’t need to perform for the camera. My approach is calm, patient, and direct. I’ll tell you exactly what to do with your hands, where to look, and how to move while still allowing the photographs to feel natural.
Hair and makeup are also available as an optional addition for select portrait sessions outside of maternity.
Thoughtful Retouching That Still Looks Like You
Pregnancy can bring temporary changes that you may not want emphasized in your photographs.
I approach retouching from a woman’s perspective and take care of the details I know may bother you. The goal is never to change who you are or make you look unrecognizable.
I want you to receive polished photographs in which you still look and feel like yourself.
More Than Remembering What You Looked Like
Maternity photographs are not only about remembering the shape of your belly or the outfits you wore.
Years from now, I want you to look at these photographs and recognize the strong woman who brought your child into the world.
I want your child to see you in these images, too—not only as their mother, but as the woman you were while waiting to meet them.
